Getting The Family Involved
Nov 11 2018

I played a couple of shows this past weekend at familiar venues, ones that I've been playing for a few years. They're like comfort zones in a way, where you know what kind of music the respective crowds like, yet can also feel free to experiment a bit. I tried out some new tunes I've learned from Nirvana and Queen, and received useful feedback on them.

But the highlight of the weekend had to be when my sister, Kelli, got on stage Saturday with her ukulele during my mid-show break and played solo for the very first time. She's quite a talented woman, having been involved in the performing arts from a young age. She's also far more technically wise than me in terms of music theory.

She got herself a ukulele recently and has taught herself how to play it. I've given them a shot myself, but I guess my fingers are so used to the guitar after 30+ years, they just can't handle the tiny frets. But she's done well to become respectably good in a short period of time.

She was nervous, and since there weren't too many people there at the time, she decided to go for it. She played three songs by one of her favorites, Amanda Palmer, then got us all singing to Can't Help Falling In Love. It was really nice, and she did a really good job.

In other news, I'm working on some new photo restorations, and just finished narrating an audio book. I'm waiting for the author to either OK it or send back some pickups for me to do. It should be out next month!
